With just three days to go before voting closes in one of the global dive industry’s most contested awards, Solomon Islands is ranking highly among global contenders for recognition as one of the best diving destinations in the world.

Over 36,500 people have voted so far in the UK based 2020 Dive Magazine Travel Awards, which closes for voting at midnight on 31 October 2020.

The competition will name the world’s Top 10 Diving Destinations, Top 10 Dive Resorts/Operations and Top 10 Liveaboard companies out of a field of 108 diving destinations, 1100 dive centres and resorts and 329 liveaboard companies.

As of 28th October, Solomon Islands is currently ranked as number 12 among top global dive destinations, Bilikiki Cruises is currently ranked 6th among the world’s favourite liveaboard operations and from a huge original field of 1100 contenders Uepi Island Resort is currently ranked 20th among favourite dive resorts.

Voting is open to the public so there is still opportunity with further support to move up in the rankings.

“Solomons is under-represented in most of the global Dive industry. Despite this we have punched above our weight in the last few years in all sectors. International recognition for the Solomons in any category will help us all as the world of diving is watching” said Grant Kelly, Manager of Uepi Island Resort and President of Dive Operators Solomon Islands.

Solomon Airlines Commercial Manager Colin Sigimanu said the support for Solomon Islands was very important global recognition.

“Solomon Islands and our dive tourism operators are quickly gaining the global recognition that they deserve,” he said.

“We are encouraging as much awareness as possible as this is a very significant ranking which is watched by the International dive community and travellers and travel media worldwide.

“Solomon Islands has appeared in the highest rankings twice previously however our reputation as an exceptional dive destination is now really gathering momentum.

“This recognition will go a long way to support our beautiful islands and tourism products and will ensure Solomon Islands is on the must-visit list for divers once our borders re-open,” he said.
