Solomon Airlines has gone through some of the most difficult times in its history. Despite these experiences, Solomon Airlines has continued to strive for development and change to ensure that the airline can achieve its corporate objectives and commitment to the people of Solomon Islands, and the travelling public at large.
Solomon Airlines has successfully implemented its strategy to be a progressive “state owned enterprise” in the Solomon Islands. We went through the different stages of development in order to provide competitive services to our clients. We have in place plans to make continuous improvements in our physical facilities – buildings and equipment.
With the application of information and communication technology, Solomon Airlines will work vigorously to become an energy friendly airline in the South Pacific – a commitment to protect the environment. In our endeavours in this regard, we will have our intranet site and put up electronic boards to facilitate communication within the Company without the use of paper. Whilst most staffs are already provided with access to computers and email, this effort will drive us to providing all staff with such facility and access.
Reviewing our policies and procedures to make improvements to encourage our staff to have hands-on education as a positive foundation in information technology and communication development is another challenge on the horizon. Such hands-on experience will assist our staffs to integrate their conceptual knowledge better while acquiring an ethical responsibility for the environment.
In 2011, Solomon Airlines is taking another challenge to become a Green Airline. We will formally begin this mission when our new Head Office is constructed at Henderson. Whilst the office will be very modern, an outstanding feature will be the application of new technology and promotion of clean energy using solar power as its major source of electricity, and therefore, reduce use of electricity. The protection of environment and promotion of clean energy, especially from business houses and airlines in particular that are well known for using fuel is becoming increasingly demanding. It is an international challenge of which Solomon Airlines will take on board.
Solomon Airlines wishes to see itself known as a Green Airline for its clean environment, utilization of clean energy such as wind and solar power, proper use of water resources and use of alternative fuels. Solomon Airlines will focus its activities on environmental issues, sustainable living and alternative construction of its physical infrastructures. We will endeavour to modify all our offices and equipment to green facilities by applying new technology to take advantage of solar power and reduce the use of electricity. Landscaping of Solomon Airlines premises, in particular the new head office will depict the beauty and diversity of Solomon Islands flowers, plants and trees.
Ongoing environmental issues such as climate change, water scarcity and biodiversity can be successfully dealt with through mediums such as awareness campaigns in our communities and workplaces. Solomon Airlines will work closely with its partners by sharing its experiences and encouraging them to introduce sustainable business practices that focus on the protection of the environment in their workplace.
Our partners in our development have been and will always be part of our growth. Thus, Solomon Airlines will enhance its collaboration with current partners and will establish collaboration with green business partners, volunteers and funding agencies who share the mission to protect the environment.
