New Marketing and Promotions Manager

Solomon Airlines has taken on board a new Marketing & Promotions Manager with the recent appointment of Mr. Vivian (Viv) Wickham.

Viv comes to Solomon Airlines a number of years with BAT (Solomon Island Tobacco Company) wherein he was the Business Development Executive and was the previous Marketing manager with SIFF (Solomon Islands Football Federation.)

Viv holds a Bachelor of Sports Management degree at the University of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand and has had much BAT training based on their world class Management training programs including site visits to overseas facilities including Papua New Guinea and Australia.

The appointment is part of the company’s restructure plans approved by the Board of Directors of Solomon Airlines Limited and is one of a number of changes planned for implementation in 2010.

The General Manager Operations & Commercial for the airline said “the appointment is timely as for most part of the past 18 months, we have been consolidating our affairs and although badly needing someone with Viv’s talent on board, we decided to wait for 2010 prior to making this substantive position appointment.” Gus Kraus said.

Gus continued “Viv’s position is highly important in our business and whilst he has no immediate airline experience, with his previous two roles in BAT and SIFF, we believe that this will hold him well in this new portfolio and he will pick up quickly in our business moving forward.”

Viv commenced two weeks ago and has been busy organising new Advertising campaigns and will be at the forefront of the Annual FlySolomons Half Marathon now being promoted to commence in September this year, as well as getting on board the Travel Shows planned for 2010 together with SIVB. Planning is already moving forward for the Shanghai World Expo and the Pacific Pavilion in which Solomon Islands, amongst other hosted Pacific nations will be featured.

In addition, the Bula Fiji Tourism Exchange (BFTE) will also be part of the road map for Solomon Airlines to participate with SIVB and Viv will be leading the Solomon Airlines Campaign to get wholesaling and retaining exposure to the world of travel making sure we focus on the product of Solomon Islands through Solomon Airlines.
