Solomon Airlines extends suspension of regular domestic flights until 27 March

Posted on February 20, 2022 at 08:00 AM in General News

  • Passengers still not permitted to travel outbound from Honiara
  • Passengers can be accepted for one-way travel from Provinces to Honiara
  • Space available cargo accepted in both directions

Solomon Airlines has today announced the continued suspension of their commercial domestic passenger flight schedules until Sunday 27 March 2022.  The airline is working with the Solomon Islands Government and COVID-19 Oversight Committee on when regular domestic flying may resume.

Due to the escalating rate of COVID-19 infection in Honiara, and the Emergency Zone declaration, travellers are currently unable to depart Honiara, however cargo-only flights are still operating from Honiara and Solomon Airlines has the approval to accept passengers from the Provinces travelling one-way to Honiara.

Solomon Airlines is also working closely with Provincial Health Authorities to meet their requirements to ensure the continuation of cargo-only flights to the Provinces and limited passenger carriage inbound.

“We are scheduling and communicating flight schedules on a daily basis at this time, as our current aircraft operations depend upon where Government supplies of medical and PPE equipment need to be transported,” said Solomon Airlines Manager Commercial, Colin Sigimanu.

“Currently, where there is space available on an aircraft, we will continue to accept private cargo in both directions and passengers inbound to Honiara, until further notice or until restrictions change,” he said.

“To minimise inconvenience to our passengers we have removed our regular commercial flights from our Reservations system until 27 March 2022.

“If services are able to resume sooner, they can be swiftly reinstated and we will accommodate passengers from cancelled services on the first flight possible.”
