Solomon Airlines further suspends domestic flights due to Government advice

Posted on January 25, 2022 at 04:00 PM in Schedule Updates

Solomon Airlines has made further changes to their published flight schedule, as a result of the Solomon Islands Government directive suspending domestic flights to and from Honiara until further notice.

Currently, all domestic flights will be cancelled through to Sunday 20 February 2022.

Solomon Airlines said all bookings that are cancelled will be honoured, and passengers will be re-accommodated onto the first available service as and when the national carrier is permitted to fly.

“In light of the latest Prime Minister’s update and the risk of ongoing lockdowns, Solomon Airlines must take this action now in the interests of public safety, and to provide certainty to our passengers, given that we have no clarity on when we’ll be able to recommence flying,” said CEO of Solomon Airlines Mr Brett Gebers.

“We will continue to liaise daily with the Solomon Islands Government on when it will be possible to resume domestic air services, with strict adherence to COVID-19 safety measures,” he said.

The airline’s international flight this Friday 28 January between Honiara and Brisbane will operate with limited passengers subject to strict approval and COVID-19 protocols, with transport guidance provided by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and COVID-19 Oversight Committee.

The national carrier’s domestic and international cargo and charter operations remain open, subject to Government approval.

“We wish to reassure people that Solomon Airlines is able to swiftly reinstate our schedules at short notice if earlier flying is permitted,” Mr Gebers added.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will ensure the readiness of our aircraft and staff to support any essential movement of people, cargo and medical resources during this time.”

Solomon Airlines’ Point Cruz Sales and Henderson Head Offices and Honiara-based Reservations will remain closed for the duration of the Government imposed lockdown, from today.

The airline at this stage anticipates its offices in Honiara may reopen on Monday 31 January, however will abide by any further lockdown requirements in Honiara. Any passengers requiring urgent assistance, are asked to contact Solomon Airlines’ Australia Sales Office which is available for contact during office hours this Thursday and Friday.
