Celebrating John Berry Anga - 26 years with Solomon Airlines

Posted on December 07, 2022 at 12:00 PM in General News

“Even if you start small, be grateful for your opportunity and work smart,” is the advice to those starting out in the workplace from John Berry Anga, Solomon Airlines Revenue Accountant.

John comes originally from Foueda Village, Makwanu in North East Malaita.

He started with the national carrier in 1995, working in the revenue section of the airline’s Finance Department. His first role as the Flight Despatching Statistics Officer, involved accurately checking and inputting all trip log data into the airline’s revenue system.

“Over the years, I took up the opportunity of different roles within Solomon Airlines Finance Department to develop my knowledge and eventually reach my current position as Revenue Accountant,” he said.

“My advice is, that in order to achieve your career dream, you may have to start small, but always respect others, work smart, be responsible, honest and patient, and you must be passionate about your work.

“It has taken a very long time to reach the position I have today.”

Today John is married to wife Jenniffer and father to two children.  He is Revenue Accountant for Solomon Airlines, responsible for ensuring all revenue due is collected and that the airline’s revenue systems are updated and processing is completed in time for financial reporting.

“It’s very satisfying to be part of a capable Finance team, and that motivates me to work hard and continue my career with Solomon Airlines,” he said.

“Finance is a behind the scenes function in many ways, but is an essential function.

“In an airline, we rely upon accurate financial processes to provide good service to our customers, reliable reports for our managers and many other financial reports needed by our company to enable good decision making, and to make sure that all deadlines are met for example for IATA billings.

“It’s very rewarding to apply the experience I have gained, and the knowledge and skills learned from training I have received.

“Learning is a lifelong process and I am always willing to share my experience with younger staff,” he added.
