Solomon Airlines extends suspension of international flights to 31 August

Posted on June 11, 2020 at 04:00 PM in Schedule Updates

  • Approved international repatriation and cargo flights still possible
  • Domestic flights continue to operate to all 23 destinations

Following consultation with the Solomon Islands Government, Solomon Airlines today announced that regular scheduled international passenger flights will now be suspended until 31 August, 2020.

Brett Gebers, CEO of Solomon Airlines said the airline would continue to take advice from the Solomon Islands Government regarding necessary precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in conjunction with continuing border restrictions in international markets.

“We are buoyed by the success within the region in managing the COVID-19 pandemic and we are continuing to liaise with Government and actively monitor the situation with our Pacific neighbours," he said.

"As the national carrier we are looking forward to restarting scheduled air services to and from the Solomon Islands, but only when we are advised it is acceptable and safe to do so,” he said.

“While we prepare to return to scheduled flying in the months ahead, we will also continue to operate Solomon Islands Government approved repatriation and cargo flights as needed,” he added.

Pending regulatory approval, the airline is also planning a series of additional repatriation flights in late June and early July between Australia, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Fiji.

Solomon Airlines also recently launched their ‘Helpful Holidays’ initiative, partnering with local tourism operators to help stimulate domestic travel, offering long weekend escapes up to 50% off regular pricing levels.
