Solomon Airlines resumes flying to Bellona and Manoba

Posted on November 20, 2023 at 03:00 PM in General News

Solomon Airlines is pleased to advise flights to Bellona and Manaoba will resume immediately following installation of new windsocks at these two domestic airstrips.

The airline’s Corporate Safety Security and Audit department confirmed the decision to resume flying, after verifying that the mandated windsock numbers are now installed at these airstrips.

Solomon Airlines had suspended all flights to four domestic airports from 10 November including Bellona (BNY), Manaoba Airport (MHM), Balalae Island (BAS) and Mono Airport (MNY),

The suspensions occurred due to concerns regarding an absence of windsocks at the aerodromes.

Windsocks are used at airports to provide pilots with vital basic information about wind direction and estimates of wind speed.

“We are pleased that flight services to Bellona and Manaoba can now recommence, but apologise to our passengers as flights to Ballalae Island and Mono Airport remain suspended,” said Solomon Airlines Acting CEO Nelson Padabela.

“Safety is our number one priority and this is a decision based upon our commitment to the safety for our aircraft crew and passengers.

“We are working closely with SIACL and MCA to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible so that flight operations can resume promptly, once all affected airstrips have the mandated number of windsocks  installed.

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this matter may cause to the travelling public, and to the communities served by these airports,” said Acting CEO of Solomon Airlines Napoleon Padabela.
