Solomon Islands Surfing

The Solomon Islands have great surf. It's like stepping back to a time when everyone could enjoy uncrowded waves, clean waters, colourful reefs and unspoilt beaches. In the Solomons, you can still find your own private beach and be among the first to surf new breaks. It's a slice of heaven off the beaten track.

The waves

Surf a range of different waves from playful to board breaking depending on your ability. There are fast and challenging breaks and fun little 2' lefts and rights inside the reefs for those with less experience. One of the best things is that they're empty - you have them all to yourselves.

Where to stay

If you're happy with life's simple comforts and want to really experience Solomon Islands culture, village stays that operate as surf camps are a great option. You'll help out the village with some income and forge some great friendships. Guest accommodation is typically in a comfortable well built thatched homes - your perfect wave just minutes away.

For those who like their luxuries, there are hotels and resorts where you can base yourself for an idyllic Solomon Islands surf adventure.

What it costs

Obviously, your costs will depend on where you choose to base yourself. Some resorts and surf camps will quote a package deal that includes everything from food, accommodation, airport transfers, surf guides and all your activities so take that into account when comparing prices. Overall the Solomons offer great value for travellers and it's possible to live cheaply - especially in the outer islands if that's what you choose.

When to go

The best surfing season is between October and April with the peak between November and March. The regular storm systems that come through at this time of year consistently generate swells from 3-6ft but they can be bigger.
