Solomon Airlines announced today that its Dash 8 service to all major ports has been cancelled due to a technical fault with the aircraft. An Airlines spokesperson indicated “ Regretfully we have had to cancel our scheduled dash 8 flights today as a result of the fault finding to do with a fault in the nose gear doors NOT CLOSING as activated.
We have decided to ferry the aircraft to Port Moresby to have the part installed rather than wait for a part to arrive which could prolong the wait.
”Initially, Solomon Airlines anticipated that the delay could affect flights tomorrow and others through the weekend, however with the part being available in Port Moresby and having made the decision to ferry the Dash8 to Port Moresby, Solomon Airlines is confident that the problem could be rectified as early as tomorrow morning.
The Spokesperson continued “with any grounding or delay and more so now during the festive season, naturally there will be a backlog of passengers to and from Honiara, so with this in mind, we are working to ensure the aircraft is up and running as soon possible to ensure services return to normal as we head toward Christmas and New Years”.
The spokesperson concluded “We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, however safety is our priority and we will not compromise this” the airline appeals to the travelling public to be patient as they work through this with an anticipated 24hours delay.
